Manager of Interior Design

Objective

Masterise Homes is looking to hire a Director of Interior Design to join the Design department team to help drive efficiency and effective function of the company.

The Director of Interior Design will report to the Head of Design and will drive implementation of all design activities for all projects of Masterise homes, and will be assisting the HOD in building up design processes, standards & regulations and ultimately ensure a clear road map towards outputs of high quality in line with international standards.

The director of Interior design will be in charge of his section and will take responsibility of day to day operations and management of team
members within his section

Key accountabilities

1. Design work- Business as usual

a. In conjunction with the HOD and Director, develop the Team resources requirement for each project

b. Assist the HOD & director of design management (DDM) in drafting of project design brief, scope & deliverables for new projects

c. Assist director of project management with preparation of request for proposal (RFP)

d. Participate in evaluation of Technical proposal received from the consultants and company qualifications, and provide recommendations to HOD & DDM

e. Establish design work delivery timelines in coordination with DDM and consultants

f. Attend kick off meetings, Technical coordination meetings, and weekly progress meetings with the consultants

g. Assist DDM with Developing the Project Design Management Plan (PDMP) for each project

h. Ensure timely and accurate design work by coordinating, monitoring, reviewing and managing design consultants work in conjunction with set design management plan and expected quality

i. Manage & Monitor consultants work progress in relation to set design programmes

j. Setup internal design review meetings with interior design team members, to go through all drawings and documents submitted by the design consultants, and generate list of comments to be submitted to DDM in timely manner

k. Review and report to HOD & Director all reports submitted by Design Consultant including weekly Areas of Concern

l. Manage the preparation, delivery and final submissions of Design Stage Reports for attaining the Design Stage Gateway Approvals from the Chairman and EXCO in accordance with Design Management Processes (DMP)

m. Provide input to DDM and support with managing Risk registry for each project, and coordinate resolutions with HOD and Director on regular basis

n. Manage cost periodically in coordination with QS team and & DDM and insure alignment of design to overall set budgets

o. Conduct Value engineering workshops with the consultant as needed to achieve targeted budget through optimal designs. Ensure that a detailed and methodical value engineering and constructability process is adopted throughout the project design process. Propose alternative materials/systems to improve the design operation and construction cost through the project life cycle

p. Manage the preparation of final design submission documents by the consultant and facilitate BOD approval process

q. Maintain record of Design Consultant(s) submittals and control in a timely manner the submittals/correspondence received. And ensure uploading Documents to server through the assistance of department secretary

r. Evaluate and endorse any variation orders/change requests submitted by the Design Consultant(s) in coordination with HOD & DDM

s. Assist HOD and Director with inputs required for presentations
to BOD

2. Internal departments- Relations & coordination

a. Act as the point of contact & the representative of Interior design section with DDM and other internal departments attending to queries, providing information and resolving any design related issues

b. Liaise with HOD, DDM, Projects department, Development department, real estate department, Project Directors, Project Managers, and Procurement department to ensure design work is executed in alignment with overall project vision and expectations

c. Support HOD, and DDM, with any technical input or studies required

d. Coordinate with DDM on timelines for marketing materials, and support DDM in managing vendors appointed to produce Marketing materials

e. Coordinate with HOD & DDM and support with relevant information and inputs to implement company processes during project validation period and throughout the various stages of design

f. When needed, assist Projects department in resolving design related issues on site, and propose solutions in conjunction with DDM

g. Review and approve ID finishes sample Materials

h. Coordinate and support the QS - Estimation Department on the development of project cost estimate at each design stage

3. Building & Developing Department standards & Processes

a. Assist HOD in developing design management plan (DMP) standard form

b. Assist HOD in developing standard RFP templates for interior design consultancy services

c. Assist HOD to build MASTERISE design standards manual

d. Assist HOD to setup design review checklists

e. Assist HOD to develop design department processes & procedures

a. Assist HOD & DDM to develop “Statutory design guidelines (SDG)” document containing general design guidelines & regulations issued by the government. This can be built based on general accumulated knowledge, issued directives from the government, and comments received during government design review process

f. In coordination with HOD, setup site inspection procedures & protocols and reporting format, as well as sample material submittals and approvals processes. And setup the team assigned responsibility of this

g. Assist HOD in defining differentiating standards for the 3 project segments

h. Enforce implementation of all design standards and procedures throughout the stages of design

i. Ensure periodical review of Lessons- learnt log sheet, and implementation of measures to rectify issues

j. Maintain awareness of industry trends, methodologies, tools, templates and best practices

k. Maintain awareness of newly launched projects in local market, and continuously explore differentiators for our projects

l. In coordination with the HOD, research capabilities and explore collaborations with new design consultants locally, regionally, and globally. And develop relations with multiple consultants

m. In coordination with the HOD develop the design department’s approved Vendor’s list Design consultants and Manufacturing companies, by evaluating capabilities, services, and products

4. TEAM BUILDING & DEVELOPMENT

a. Advocate & cultivate a culture of continuous improvements within the department

b. Cultivate a culture of transparency& accountability within the department

c. Cultivate a culture of cooperation within team members in the department and with other internal departments based on the common goals and objectives of the company

d. Assist the HOD in setting up a road map for every member within his team in order to visualize a clear pathway to his career progression and growth within the company

e. In coordination with HOD and in line with set job description, define a clear scope of work for each person within the team, and the level of responsibilities assigned to them. And communicate expectations directly to team members

f. Assist HOD to periodically setup training sessions for team members through external suppliers and exposure to building systems & materials, and through internal mentoring and sharing of knowledge

g. Ensure continuous mentoring of internal team members, and alignment with best practices and international work standards

  • Internal Relationship: DMM & Representatives nominated by Heads of Department across the business.
  • External Relationship: Consultants, Contractors, and Vendors

2 Knowledge in Revit software (BIM) is an advantage    
3 Proficient in common application software (Power point, Excel..etc)
